Best Five Minutes and a Cultural Divide
How awesome. I got to see Carole King introduce an award. She’s 66?! I hope I look that youthful and happy at 66. Then some nice Canadian woman sang a pretty song about Teenage Hopes, and then Keelie Smith sang with Kid Rock as Dave Koz played saxophone right next to them. That was catchy, even though I normally hate Kid Rock. And I got to see an audience shot of Bonnie Raitt! Then the Foo Fighters won an award for something! I suspect this has to be the best five minutes of the Grammy’s I’ve seen in ten years, so I should probably turn off the tv now.
Oh. my. God. The LH made a comment about one of the presenters, saying, “he must not be able to see the teleprompter very well.” I was like, “That’s STEVIE WONDER!” His response: “Oh, is it?” I definitely did not marry a black man.
*appalled*

I love the Grammys. I think one of the best moments was when Amy Winehouse just stood there after winning her award. Very nice.
(from H Sofia: I think Winehouse is talented - had never seen her perform before. But wow, what a “messy” human being. I hope she can stop killing herself with the drugs and alcohol. Her “acceptance” speech was both brow-raising and refreshing at the same time. People generally try to act all high falutin’ on awards shows, but there she was, repeatedly thanking “Ray-Ray,” - whoever that is - in a slurred, working class vernacular. I told my mom it was healthy for people to see that Jewish people and British people come in all types.)
Okay, I nearly spit coffee all over my computer screen, laughing. He didn’t recognize Stevie Wonder? Forget not a black man … are you *sure* he’s human?
LE
Imagining a Martian who was utterly convincing … until he was brought down by not knowing SW.
LE - Yeah, after I said that to him (and posted it), I had to call my mom and tell her - she was like, “Who doesn’t know who Stevie Wonder is?!” Maybe being born in the 80s has something to do with it. My mom (who introduced us) told him he’d better get it together, he’s about to have a black child. We are going to have to get him some flash cards or something!
We could all probably use flash cards… poor guy.
I go away for a little while and the man knows no Wonder, the Foos finally get some props, and the beautiful Hafidha Sofia gets pregnant?!?! Maybe I should go underground again. When I resurface next time the war will be over, environmentalism fully embraced by the U.S. power structure and Amy Winehouse will be sober.
Congratulations! Health and happiness to the family.
(from H Sofia: LOL. I love how you equate Winehouse’s sobriety with the end of the war! We can only hope … for both!)
I love Stevie Wonder. Voted artist most likely to put a smile on your face whether you’d like it there or not.
